Kent Comley

Together with my wife Christine, manage the Barn Steakhouse and Accommodation. I have recently launched Kent and Co Wines, a boutique Mount Gambier brand. My background was in wine marketing, having previously worked for Southcorp Wines, Tyrrells Wines and a decade in Coonawarra at Hollick Wines.
I arrived in 1999, the year that I married my wife Christine.
The strong sense of community and the great lifestyle, not to mention a great golf course.
I am convinced that Mount Gambier has a great deal to offer and that tourism will be a key driver of economic growth of the region. I believe that the initiatives that TMG are undertaking are critical to enhancing the visitor economy and that my industry and board experience enables me to contribute positively to the formulation of strategies.

Ben Deering

Deputy Chair

Retail, hospitality and sales & marketing. Photography & art initially kicked off my career in travel which shifted to full time travel & tourism through a mixture of retail, corporate and group booking roles. Previous to Mount Gambier, I was managing Australia’s largest wholesale travel department in Melbourne. I am currently the Community Manager for Flinders Uni’s Envision Limestone Coast incubator and a mobile digital Travel Agency, while sharing the views as Caretaker of our Centenary Tower.

Ben and his family have made the road trip too many times to count from Adelaide & Melbourne for the last decade. As a young family, they moved to Mount Gambier in 2017 and it’s now their permanent home.

The most fascinating blend of sinkholes, caves and craters on the edge of town with a great community.

There is an oversupply of natural beauty and geology you don’t find anywhere else. There are also plenty of ideas which mean little without us taking action. I tend to look at my glass as overflowing rather than half full, which makes this a very privileged position to grow our region. After years of helping grow best practice sending Aussies overseas, it’s nice to bring in others to show off our amazing backyard.

The natural beauty and atmosphere of the volcanic lakes, gardens and forests with easy access to quality local food and wine.
To work towards increasing the prosperity of our town via a thriving tourism industry.

I have lived in the Mount Gambier district for most of my adult life.

The landscape, the lifestyle, the opportunity to be involved in the community.

I see tourism as a key industry that can grow the economy of the region and think I have skills to offer to help make that happen.

Current owner operator Best Western Southgate Motel for past 13 years with 15 years in the industry previous to current was 18 years experience in building industry supplies.
Past 20 years in Mt Gambier prior to that from just over the border into Victoria off the family farm.
To help promote our fantastic city & area on the world map as a must see destination.

Lyn McLachlan

I have been in the hospitality and retail industry in Grampians for a number of years. I was also engaged in the public sector, where I managed major government projects, including funding applications. Two years ago I started The Limestone Coast pantry to promote and sale products made from local produce.
All together, about 13 years now.
It is a highly productive and resource rich area and hence my reason for starting a new business. It offers opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. It has such diversity, with the coast nearby, geological futures and the Coonawarra, which lends itself towards the tourism industry.
My experience in the private retail and public sector and my involvement with the Northern Grampians tourist group will benefit this role and I can make a positive contribution. My cross border networks can also assist in collaboration between Western Victoria and us.
