Conservation and Wildlife Park – Valley Lakes Mount Gambier
Fun for Everyone!
For those of you who love to walk and be ‘as one’ with nature, may I suggest you do yourself a favour and take a drive to Mount Gambier’s Conservation and Wildlife Park down in the Valley Lakes.
A free activity for the whole family that is open 7 days a week with wonderful views, board walks and wildlife that’s sure to impress! Stroll amongst the tree tops upon lofty board walks and through water ways whilst seeking out the wildlife. See the kangaroos, koalas and many species of birds.
Whilst this is not a wildlife park where you can pet the animals, you’re sure to see them lazing around the scrub or hanging out in the tree tops!
No Bread Please!
On a recent visit I saw a few turtles in one of the ponds mixing with the local water fowl. Cape Baron Geese wander through the park as well, happy for you to take their photo. Remember that the wildlife doesn’t tolerate bread in their diet so resist the temptation to feed them please!
If you would like to pack a BBQ lunch you can fire up one of the many free gas BBQ’s in the area. After lunch make sure you let the kids visit the great playground. All fully fenced and well equipped with the latest playground activities! There are also plenty of shelters with rotunda’s dotted around the grounds for times when the weather may be inclement.
If you happen to have packed your own kayak, a leisurely paddle on the Valley Lake is a must. So tranquil and no current to have to fight against!
During the Autumn months the colours are outstanding as many of the European trees that have been planted in the area burst with warm hues.
This all makes for a pleasant day out without having to reach into your wallet, what a nice surprise!!
