John travelled the world with his career in winemaking, working throughout Australia, Spain, France, Italy, China and America.
Then one Saturday afternoon in 2014, John was travelling along the expressway in Adelaide in his SUV. He had just filled a 20Lt jerry can with petrol and placed it in the back of the car. His mobile phone charger was plugged in and the phone lead was touching the floor. It was a static spark from this that activated the petrol fumes causing an explosion. John first heard the howling sound of the explosion before the flames wrapped across the windscreen. John jumped from his speeding car and not only survived the impact, he survived receiving burns to 75% of his body and a year in hospital.
