Is your Instagram lit up with winter pics with that mysterious chilly vibe? If you’re looking to join in on the adventure don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Rug up and get out!

First things first, you’ll need to put some layers on! With coastal winds hitting the landscape this is the perfect time to plan your winter fix. Once you’re snug you’re free to head out and explore our natural landscape – take a hike through the majestic Valley Lakes/Ketla Malpi parkland and view the city from one of the best views around. Keen for another hike? Why not scale the side of Australia’s youngest volcano (which, by the way, is technically dormant).

If you’re not a fan of heights you can trek down into the Leg of Mutton Lake/Yatton Loo – though it’s not much of a lake anymore! Winter is a top season to explore this walking path and the best part is it’s right next to our famous Blue Lake/Warwar.

Warm the bones with a glass of vintage.

Being located next to the famous Coonawarra wine region has it’s perks! Wherever you go you’ll see all the best local labels stocked; from our restaurants to our pubs and wine bars you’re spoilt for choice. If you would rather go straight to the source you can check out the wineries cellar doors and book for a tasting session.

If a drop isn’t your jam you can always go on a hunt for the best coffee in town, better yet it won’t take you long! Everyone has their favourite spot to get their caffeinated fix and you’re sure to find one too.

Our Lake changes colour – you should see both of them.

The Blue Lake/Warwar is stunning during summer with it’s crystal-clear cobalt blue hue, but have you seen it in winter? The steely grey skies compliment the hazy fog over the mountain and peering through the fog you can see the surface of the lake.

Umpherston Sinkhole/Balumbul has a similar effect; you haven’t lived until you have stood at the bottom of the sinkhole surrounded by a similar haze that makes for some spellbinding pics. So don’t waste your chilly days!
