Planning, planning, and more planning…

First things first, you need to know what you’re looking for, when to go and where to find them. Planning will make all the difference to your experience.

What are these glowing mushrooms everyone has been talking about? The Ghost Mushroom (Omphalotus nidiformis) is a bioluminescent fungus that has a soft green glow at night. Found primarily in southern Australia, Ghost Mushooms grow on decaying plant material such as stumps left after pine tree harvest.

Ghost Mushrooms start to emerge during late autumn, with Ghost Mushroom Lane opening for the public during the months of May and June. Walking trails such as Fairy Tale Hollow, Fungi Hunter Alley and the Neon Forest are marked to help visitors find their way.

So, where is Ghost Mushroom Lane? Located in the commercial pine forest near Glencoe, you only have to travel 16km from Mount Gambier and you’re there. Check out the Ghost Mushroom Lane site map here.
