The Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations return, and it’s bigger than ever!

Celebrations kicked off on Friday 28 September and continue all the way up until Wednesday 31 October. This year’s program provides plenty of opportunities for wine enthusiasts, foodies and families to experience some of Coonawarra’s finest , with 31 wineries and over 60 events to choose from.

Regional Retrospective Tasting

Friday 12 October / 4:30pm – 6:30pm / Hollick Estates Barrel Hall

If your a lover of great wines, this is an event not to miss. This event brings together over 20 winemakers from across the Connawarra region, giving you a unique opportunity to taste and compare their wines from over 10 years ago through to their newer releases. Discover how the characteristics of Cabernet change and develop over the years. There will be over 45 Wines available for tasting, dating back to the early 2000’s and even a 1999 Vintage among the mix!

A Decade of Majella Cabernet and Tasty Gourmet Hot Dogs

Saturday 13 October / 10:00am – 5:30pm / Historic Cemetery of Penola

Take a step back in time and experience a decade of Majella Cabernet Sauvignon with their annual vertical tasting. This great event will give you the chance to meet the family behind the Majella label and enjoy a chat with the wine makers themselves. Not only will there be great cellar door specials, there will be gourmet hot dogs on the menu too! Some great cellar door specials will be available along with gourmet hot dogs. Current release wines are available by the glass.

Masterclass : The Provenance of Cabernet

Saturday 13 October / 10:30am – 12:30pm / Gables at Wynns Coonawarra Estate

Fancy yourself a wine connoisseur? Then this is event for you! This masterclass by far one of the favourites throughout the month-long programme,  offering an intimate and professional tasting experience. This year’s tasting is to be hosted by Lindeman’s Coonawarra Winemaker, Brett Sharpe, and Phillip Rich, Wine General Manager of the Lucas Group.

This masterclass will explore the provenance of 5 carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon or Claret wines from 2 vintages spanning at least 10 years. This is your chance to taste wines with a price tag of over $350, including Chateau Montrose 2me cru classe, St-Estephe 2005, and Penfolds 2004 Bin 707 (RRP $620+),  alongside Langton’s classified wines from vintages from Coonawarra and Margaret River.

WILLIAM WILSON- Heritage, Haggis and a Headstone – Tour & Tasting

Saturday 13 October / 1:00pm – 5:30pm / Historic Cemetery of Penola

Here’s one for the history buffs. Join the Redman and Balnaves families as they take you back through time on a tour at the Historic Cemetery of Penola. Learn the family history behind their ancestor William Wilson followed by a tasting of their new release ultra-premium and very limited Shiraz Cabernet named after him. Canapes will be available, with an “optional” slither of Haggis if your game.
