‘Fringe Mount Gambier’ is a cultural exploration that embraces acceptance and diversity. It gives agency to artists to be bold and present edgy, quirky art that is fun, entertaining and reflective of who we are as a community.
Mount Gambier is painting the town blue with Fringe Mount Gambier. Bringing together a dynamic showcase of art and performances spread across a number of venues around the region. Watch the town come to life from Friday 22 March – Sunday 31 March 2019.
The Fringe Mount Gambier program has just dropped and it’s jam-packed with five-star acts! There’s so much to see and do, from cabaret and magic to art and music…but what to choose! There’s something for everyone, so we suggest having a good look for yourself. A bit overwhelmed? Here’s a list of some experiences not to miss!
LIFT-OFF STREET PARTY
Kicking the Fringe off in Mount Gambier is the Lift-Off Street Party. With roving performers, food vendors, bars, amusements, and a parade of dance, music and spontaneous energy, this street party will be one with a bang! Fun for all ages, from small to tall, it’s set to be a great night.
SHOWCASE CAVE GARDEN
Taking over the Cave Garden, the Fringe Showcase will be a full day of dance, psychical theatre, visual art, circus, cabaret, comedy, music and more – making it the dynamic, arty Fringe HUB! If you aren’t yet set on a single performance, the showcase is for you. It will give you a taste…or maybe a chomp of the Fringe.
THE LITTLE PALAIS PERFORMANCES
Want to run away to the circus but only for a moment? Step inside The Little Palais at the Fringe Showcase. Experience circus, vaundeville, comedy, juggline, hula-hoop madness or tomfoolery in 20 minute show running from 11:00am – 9:00pm. The word is that you have to keep an eye out for local artists making their debut!
& I’LL CRY IF I WANT TO
Madhouse Circus presents their third full-length show, this time featuring three childish acrobats, partying like it’s past their bedtime! There’ll be hula hooping, giant German wheel-ing and some phenomenal trio acrobatics on show as well as the hilarity, silly facial expressions and balloons popping like crazy. & I’ll Cry If I Want To is one for all ages to enjoy!
Five fearless females, smashing stereotypes and smashing out tricks. We don’t want to seesaw – we want to jump, fly and flip! This brand-new ripper of a show, Boss Squad, calls out the catcallers while embracing all things weird and acrobatically wonderful. Move over, there’s a new boss in town…
DAVID MANEY: BLUE LAKE CITY
Take a comedic walk down memory lane with award winning writer and performer, David Maney. Around every corner, in every letterbox you’ll find a parcel of memories. Blue Lake City is a lover letter to Mount Gambier.
TASH YORK: BADASS
Whether it’s wielding a bat to the patriarchy, challenging life’s norms, or just cussing like a sailor, Tash York is on a journey to find her inner Badass. Loud, powerful and uncompromising these are the powers a true badass does possess. But sometimes it’s hard to find your inner badass when you’re hungover AF, covered in chicken nuggets and too anxious to go outside.
YUMMY DELUXE – UP LATE
Let YUMMY take you on the ride of your life with breath-taking drag, music, circus, and burlesque. Come and join the stars of YUMMY as they lead a new wave of outrageous, joyful, and innovative cabaret. With a performance at the Showcase and an ‘Up Late’ performance at the Limestone Coast Pantry, there is no reason to miss this delicious act.
