Tourism Mount Gambier Member Spotlight: Old Mount Gambier Gaol

We ask Tourism Mount Gambier Members about themselves and why they love Mount Gambier.

What business are you in?
We operate a 150 year old gaol that we have converted into boutique accommodation and function centre. It was operational as a prison from 1866 unto 1995 .
We hold the largest music shows in the regions history with bands such as Bliss N Eso, Hilltop Hoods, Xavier Rudd. Over the past 3 years we also hold the Red Hot Summer Tour which is the biggest regional rock festival in Australia. Some of the acts that play are Jimmy Barnes, Noiseworks, Ice House, Daryl Braithwaite, James Reyne, Psuedo Echo and Suzi Quatro.
We are the only gaol in Australia converted into full time boutique accommodation and 1 of only 15 in the world .
We can hold any type of event ranging from music shows, birthday parties, art shows, school camps, families, backpackers, couples and large groups.

What makes Mount Gambier so special?
Mount Gambier ticks all the boxes for a self-drive family holiday with rolling hills, volcanoes, world heritage caves, sinkholes and wineries. It is perfectly located between Melbourne and Adelaide with the Great Ocean Road and the wonderful Coorong national park at our doorstep.

What is a must do for a visitor?
To stay in our beautiful old home and wander around the gaol gardens and courtyards.
The Blue Lake is a must see in summer and a walk around the leg of mutton, Umpherston sinkholes, cave gardens and the Valley Lakes are all spectacular.
